Write for us
We welcome pitches that bring careful attention to rituals, objects, customs, making or gathering in ordinary life. A strong proposal starts with a specific subject and a question worth staying with.
What we welcome
Consider an essay or explainer that makes a familiar practice newly legible, follows the changing meaning of an object, or offers thoughtful context for a shared custom. We value precise details, a clear line of thought and respect for the variety of ways people live. The subject should work for readers without specialist knowledge.
What to include
Tell us the proposed subject, the main idea, why it suits Open Living Culture and how you would approach it. Mention the kind of material or sources the piece would rely on, and disclose any relevant interests or relationships. A proposal is enough; please do not send a complete article unless we have asked for one.
Where to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. We consider pitches for fit and clarity; sending one does not guarantee publication. Please do not include private information that is not needed to explain your idea.
Ordinary life deserves a closer look
We notice the gestures, objects and customs that can pass without comment, then ask what they mean and how they came to matter.
